Common Questions

  • Latex is a rubber particle suspended in water. There are four types of latex foam: Organic Latex, 100% Natural Latex, Blended Latex, and Synthetic Latex. Please find detailed information on the different types of latex here.

  • EURO-FLEX uses Organic Latex (Organic Dunlop Latex) in the following mattress models: Serenity 9, Serenity 6, and Equality (bottom two layers).

EURO-FLEX uses 100% Natural Latex (All-Natural Talalay Latex) in the following mattress models: Geneva 9, Geneva 6, Equality (top layer), and Luxe Coil.

EURO-FLEX does not use Blended Latex in its mattress, but Blended Latex is available upon request. We also do not use Synthetic Latex in our mattresses.

Our Organic Latex is GOLS Certified and sourced from Sri Lanka. Our All-Natural Talalay Latex is Oeko-Tex 100 Certified and Made in the USA.

  • Latex is natural rubber, harvested from the sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis (commonly referred to as the rubber tree). Memory foam (or visco-elastic foam) is a synthetic petroleum-based material.

Latex provides "instantaneous recovery" as it contours and supports any body movement, while memory foam provides "slow recovery". With memory foam, the sleeper must wait for their body temperature to soften the foam prior to getting the true contouring support that they experience immediately with latex.

EURO-FLEX does not use memory foam on its mattresses. All mattresses are made with latex foam, either Organic or All-Natural.

  • There are two main processes used to produce latex foam, the Talalay process, and the Dunlop process.

The Talalay process is a highly controlled, sophisticated latex manufacturing process that produces the highest quality and most consistent latex available in the world.

The Dunlop process is the most commonly used production method throughout the world. It creates a denser product that is used more as a base core component.

Please find detailed information on the differences between Talalay and Dunlop latex here.

  • There are many different types of materials used in mattresses, but latex foam is often considered the best option because latex foam is very resilient and flexible, making it ideal for use in mattresses. It is also very durable, making it last for many years. In addition, latex foam offers many benefits when compared with other materials used in mattresses because it is natural/organic and it does not off-gas, so you don’t need to worry about breathing in any unhealthy chemicals. Latex foam also breaths naturally, promoting temperature regulation by not trapping heat in the mattress.

  • A latex foam mattress is one of the best choices for an adjustable base. Since latex foam is highly resilient and flexible, it becomes the ideal material to build mattresses for adjustable beds. If you have a latex mattress, you can adjust your bed up and down as much as you would like throughout many years, and the latex foam will perform beautifully. Latex foam is also highly durable, making the mattress last for many years, even when used with an adjustable base.

We’ve been selling the combination of latex mattresses and adjustable bases since 1991, and many of our customers still have the same mattress set they purchased in the 90s or early 2000s. That shows us that latex performs wonderfully for a very long time, in every aspect we expect a quality mattress to perform, being its support, comfort, durability, flexibility, and even in loyalty, because it won’t share all those stories and secrets it has presenced over all those years in your bedroom 😊

  • In the late 1990s, latex allergies became a topic of concern. Publicity revolved around a very small portion of the public being exposed to a protein found in the natural rubber latex that caused allergic reactions. The majority of these cases involved healthcare workers who came in frequent contact with medical products made using a dipped vulcanization product, often produced in third world countries that do not have the stringent GMP manufacturing codes employed in the United States.

Although the process is completely different from ours, Euro-Flex takes proactive action to prevent the potential for allergic reactions. Since the protein found in latex is the primary cause of latex allergies, the Talalay process ensures a five-stage rinse (This step is unique to the Talalay Process). Washing the solid latex ensures a cleaner latex, where any protein residue is washed away. Thus, for those that are allergic to latex, Talalay is a better option than Dunlop latex.

We have been producing and selling latex mattresses for over 30 years (since 1991). We have many customers that have latex allergies and have no problems using our latex mattress. Generally, consumers' skin does not come in direct contact with the latex, neither is the consumer breathing in any latex particles since the latex layers are covered with a thick mattress cover made out of cotton and lambswool. Also, most consumers use a mattress protector or a mattress pad, and sheets, which increases the number of layers between the latex and the skin.

If you are concerned about having any allergic reaction to latex foam, we can provide a sample of latex foam and you can take it home with you before making a purchase decision. Many customers take the sample home and keep it around the house for a few days, or even wear it in contact with their skin to make sure an allergic reaction will not occur. Another suggestion is to start with a latex pillow. The pillow represents a smaller investment to start with, and it is also in closer contact with the skin and nose. If you do not have any allergic reactions from a latex sample or pillow, chances are pretty slim that you will have any allergic reaction from any of our latex mattresses.

  • Here are some of the key reasons why latex mattresses are so sustainable and environmentally friendly:

    1. Latex mattresses do not off-gas, unlike many other types of mattresses. Off-gassing can release harmful chemicals into the air, and these chemicals can be harmful to both our health and the environment.

    2. Latex mattresses are made from natural materials, so they do not require the use of toxic chemicals in their production. This also means that they will decompose naturally when they eventually reach the end of their lifespan, rather than leaching harmful toxins into the environment.

Just be aware that not all latex foam is created equal. You should always look for All-Natural or Organic latex foam when purchasing a mattress. Blended or synthetic latex foam contains synthetic latex (man-made latex) and will produce unhealthy off-gassing as other mattress materials, such as memory foam.

    3. Natural/Organic latex derives from a sustainable resource (milk from the rubber tree). The milk is collected using sustainable practices that do not harm the trees. Rubber trees generally produce liquid latex for approximately 24 years. Every six years, the cuts made into the sap to collect the milk are relocated, to allow the tree to heal properly and remain healthy. Besides, no trees are cut down during harvesting.

    4. Latex mattresses are durable. That means you won’t need to replace it as often, making it even more sustainable and eco-friendly. Most latex mattresses (if from a quality source and cared for properly) will last around 15-20 years, sometimes even longer. According to the Sleep Foundation (2022), the average lifespan of a mattress is 7 to 10 years. Thus, by purchasing a latex mattress, you will help to reduce the impact of artificial materials on the environment.

  • There are many details to consider when choosing the adequate bed/mattress size, with a few of them including your bedroom space, the number of people that will sleep in the bed, the preferred sleeping position of those sleeping in bed, etc. In general, most of our customers (about 52%) prefer the King size bed (either Eastern King, Cal King, or any of those split into two mattresses), and the second most popular size is the Queen size, with about 30% of our customers choosing this bed size.

  • Lambswool is a perfect element to include in our luxurious quilted mattress covers due to the natural benefits it provides; enhancing the quality of your sleep. The benefits of lambswool include:

Natural insulator and temperature regulator - warm in the winter, cooler in the summer

Moisture control - allows for body moisture to easily evaporate

Natural fire retardant – which eliminates the need for synthetic fire retardants in the mattress

Provides soft and luxurious feel, improving the comfort of the mattress

Wool is also antimicrobial and antibacterial, helping keeping your mattress clean

  • No, unfortunately our mattress covers cannot be washed. You can spot-clean our mattress covers by carefully and gently blotting any stain. Make sure not to apply solutions or liquids directly to the mattress, as not to soak the mattress. The goal is to clean the stain without making the mattress wet. Although store-bought enzyme stain remover will work well for biological stains (blood, sweat, vomit, urine, or other related stains), we recommend you use more natural cleaning methods. For a more natural cleaner, you can make your own stain remover by using a small amount of natural dish soap mixed with water and use the foam part of the mixture only to apply to the stain. Another option would be a paste of baking soda and a very small amount of water (or vinegar for stubborn stains). Apply the stain remover that you prefer to a clean white cloth (a colorful cloth could transfer color and stain the mattress cover). If using the baking soda paste, let it sit for about 20 minutes (30 for stubborn stains). Vacuum the spot to remove any baking soda residue. Using a second clean cloth dampened with water, blot again to rinse. Let the mattress dry completely.

  • Most of our mattress models can be customized from very soft to extra firm. Standard firmnesses include soft, medium, medium-firm, firm, and extra firm. If you don’t find your perfect match within our standard firmnesses, we can customize the mattress to meet the firmness of your choice.

  • Yes, all our mattresses are customizable. We build our mattresses locally, in our San Diego Factory, which is located at the back of our Morena Blvd. showroom. Since we build every mattress by order, we can customize it to any specification you would like to. We will work with you to design the mattress that meets your personal needs, that includes any specific firmness, height, width, length, shape, material option, soft shoulder for side sleepers, hard-edge for extra support while getting off the bed, etc. See all customization options here.

  • It depends on each specific customization. Generally speaking, a custom mattress will cost about 10% more expensive than our regular mattresses for the customization service, plus any extra material that is needed to make the customized mattress (e.g., a 12” mattress needs an extra layer of latex when compared to our 9” mattresses). We generally do not charge extra for customizable firmness.

  • We do recommend you rotate your Euro-Flex mattress once a year for even wear. If you have an independent mattress topper, it would be ideal to rotate the topper about 3 times per year to allow for even wear.

  • All our latex mattresses come with a 15-year warranty. You should expect your Euro-Flex latex mattress to last around 15-20 years. The softer the mattress, the shorter its lifespan. To extend the lifespan of your latex mattress, please follow recommendation listed on your mattress warranty, including using an appropriate mattress foundation, using a removable and washable mattress protector, rotating your mattress at least once a year, rotate your pillow top (if you have one) at least 3 times a year, and avoiding direct sun and other heat sources exposure.

  • Since we make each mattress to order, we do not accept returns. Our goal is to make make sure that you will sleep comfortably and be happy with your new mattress. We also know it is challenging to be sure of what mattress is the best option for you while trying options in-store. For this reason, we give you 60-days to sleep on the mattress and let your body tell you if that was the best choice. If you feel that your new mattress is too soft or too firm for your sleep needs, we will make adjustments (in-home adjustments) to the mattress until we find the best combination and ensure that you are satisfied with the firmness of your mattress. Questions About Mattress Toppers (Pillow Tops)

  • We recommend you to rotate your Euro-Flex topper 3-times a year to ensure evenly wear.

  • No, our mattress topper covers are neither removable or washable. You can spot-clean our mattress topper covers by carefully and gently blotting any stain. Make sure not to apply solutions or liquids directly to the cover, as not to soak the mattress topper. The goal is to clean the stain without making the cover wet.

  • Many factors influence how long your latex topper will last, including its firmness/softness, the size/weight of the sleeper(s), rotation frequency, the support that the mattress provides to the topper, etc. A soft topper will wear a little faster than a medium or firm topper. At the same time, a softer topper will provide extra comfort as it conforms nicely to the body. Rotating your topper 3-times a year will help prolong the lifespan of your latex topper. We noticed that on average, a soft topper needs replacement at about 4-5 years of use, but it can last up to around 10 years. If your topper is not showing signs of wear, we recommend replacing it every 7-8 years.

  • All latex toppers are Final Sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
